China may already be using AI to infiltrate your feed, your group chats, and your mind. right, And I say that because two Vanderbilt University national security professors uncovered documents linking Chinese company GoLaxy to a state-aligned ai influence campaign. you see, GoLaxy They allegedly combine generative AI with massive personal data to target individuals. with the system mining social media to build a psychological profiles. right, values, beliefs, emotions, vulnerabilities and then tailors content in real time. and AI personas, they can like, comment and message just like real people, making them nearly impossible to detect. right, with some reports saying you have smarter, more realistic fake friends, that could hit your most personal thoughts and struggles. and allegedly, it's been deployed in Hong Kong to minimize opposition to China's 2020 national security law. it was also reportedly active before Taiwan's 2024 election, advising on exploiting political divisions. And while GoLaxy denies any involvement and claims it's just a business intelligence firm. You have the professors saying that the ties to Chinese intelligence are glaring. and know, while known ai companionship is a growing trend, which I mean, that alone, it makes people more vulnerable to manipulation, there's a huge concern out there that instead of very stupid, very obvious bots, who knows the level of manipulation that's possible when you have an army of AI bots out there that know so many things about you as an individual that they know which levers they can pull. and you have experts urging that researchers need to map AI propaganda networks, the private sector needs to improve AI detection tools, and the government needs to identify and disrupt false profiles. and so for you as an individual one, you know vet your online friends. and definitely just be careful with what you share because AI deception AI manipulation. It's only going to get better from here.
