A little bit more sporadic than my usual content but with AI-powered characters soon coming to games I really want to get this out before I head off to Serbia. It's a mish mash of all my thoughts on AI in games, which I don't do a good job of differentiating between regular AI characters in this video. Sorry. If you're confused, read on: proper neural-networkedly trained NPCs are coming to our games. They have the ability to transcend the scripted behaviours of normal bots and NPCs. They are already being put into games to serve as bosses we have to fight, and as teammates if you have no friends... but it should be obvious by now how dangerous this will be once anyone can do this with their PC.
You think cheating's a problem? Imagine not knowing who's real, and who's AI. I actually think it's a really exciting thing for single player games, but for all manner of popular reasons will be DISASTEROUS for the online community of esport games like CS2, which rely on people playing honestly and without any kind of assistance in the form of cheats or AI. When I talk about this intelligent form of AI in a game like CS2, I refer to it being used to develop very difficult to detect aimbots, and even as players themselves. You think anti-cheat struggles with existing exploits? AI will be virtually impossible to detect without so many false positives / negatives so as to render it broken.
