While AI has existed for some time, it is just now becoming available to consumers and working professionals alike for everyday use. For TD professionals, and especially instructional designers, AI technology is quickly being embedded into everyday tools

In AI in Instructional Design: Transforming Workflows and Content Creation, 232 TD professionals answered questions about how they use AI tools for day-to-day tasks, content creation, and the development of multimedia assets. It explores the types of AI tools they use, as well as how those tools affect course quality and the time it takes to create them.

Key findings include:

80% of instructional designers use AI tools, and they mostly use generative AI as opposed to traditional AI.
96% of instructional designers are concerned about copyright and intellectual property rights of AI-generated content.
Most instructional designers have experienced improvement in their ability to design courses when using AI tools.
Instructional designers most commonly use AI tools to outline courses, storyboard, write learning objectives, create different types of training content, and develop voice-overs and narration.
