The man known as the Godfather of artificial intelligence, Geoffrey Hinton says it's not a matter of if but when artificial superintelligence is coming. The pioneering computer scientist says he expects it'll be within the next 20 years and we should work hard to make sure it doesn't take over from humans. AI is currently reshaping the way Australians work and there's a growing debate about whether its advance will lead to a spike in unemployment. The boom in AI and the massive investment in this technology is leading to fears of an AI bubble, but Minotaur Capital co-founder Armina Rosenberg says a crash is unlikely, although she expects a 10 to 15 per cent correction in 2026. The AI race is driving demand for data centres with Australian businesses vying for their place on the scene. There most pressing challenges are energy and water as well as price. Does the government's AI Plan go far enough to protect Australians from potential harms? And, is Elon Musk right to call for the introduction of a universal basic income? This special summer edition of The Business focuses on how artificial intelligence is changing jobs and the economy and what could come next.
