There is a big change in how people are using AI in 2025...
Till last year, the biggest use of AI was to Generate Ideas, Edit Text and for Search...
But data for 2025 as analyzed by HBR shows that the number one use of AI today is for Therapy...
Followed by “Organizing Their Life”... and “Finding Purpose”... which are absolutely new use cases that did not exist on the list till last year.
Thereafter comes Enhanced Learning...
It’s a radical shift in a matter of one year where the use of AI has now moved dramatically from technical to emotional applications....
For example, in countries of Africa, where there are barely any mental health therapists, the biggest use is asking for companionship or venting to AI in an attempt to get an understanding ear that could give reasonable advice...
I would put astrology at the same plane, because the best astrologers don’t just read charts technically but contextualise the reading to bring more hope for the future in the lives of their clients.
It’s picked up because it’s free, available 24/7, and lack of judgement from another human.
Because the biggest blockage people have in self improvement is not being able to ask an expert a question because they are embarrassed of over sharing, and now this problem of bothering someone, or being embarrassed is gone.
And most recent research has shown that therapy through AI models and from expert human therapists is now indistinguishable and at the same level.
In organizing people’s lives, there are prompts such as, I have guests coming over in 5 hours, and I need to do X, Y, Z, A, B, C... help me put a timeline on what should I start first, and how to proceed so that I can get done.
People are also building their own learning systems, using AI to assist them make a curriculum for upskilling in their domain.
Do check out the latest post by HBR on the topic, quite a read.
