Lisp is an artificial intelligence (AI) programming language, developed in the late 1950s by John McCarthy, that became a cornerstone of early AI research. Its strengths in symbolic computation, flexibility, and ability to handle self-modifying programs made it ideal for tasks like natural language processing and expert systems, though its extensive use of parentheses and a smaller ecosystem present modern challenges. And Lisp is one of the oldest high level programming languages in the world.
An early look at artificial Intelligence. Guests includes Edward Feigenbaum of Stanford University, Nils Nilsson of the AI Center at SRI International, Tom Kehler of Intellegenetics, Herb Lechner of SRI, and John McCarthy of Stanford. Featured demonstrations include Inferential Knowledge Engineering and the programming language LISP. Originally broadcast in 1984. Copyright 1984 Stewart Cheifet Productions.
