There are suggestions that Australians are trading their privacy for a sharper picture.
A 2023 study found that smart TVs are the most vulnerable of any common internet connected device.
According to RMIT’s Smart TV Lab, internet connected televisions often collect personal data which the TV maker can sell.
“TVs are quite inexpensive compared to what they used to be and that’s mainly because manufacturers are monetising the device post purchase," RMIT Smart TV Lab’s Dr Alexa Scarlata told Sky News Australia.
